Miraval Rosé Côtes de Provence - 2014

A beautiful light pink colour, fresh fruit aromas and refreshing acidity. Miraval’s pure expression of the terroir of Côtes de Provence.

Presentation

Presentation
Miraval rosé is a wonderful blend of fruits aromas and freshness, made on an exceptional terroir in Provence.
The vintage
The 2014 vintage in Provence looks very promising. The mild and humid climate allowed the wines to express their character and gave them a wide range of aromas and a very rich complexity.
Yet the climate was without respite, characterised by variable weather. A mild and wet winter followed by a hot, dry spring and a cooler summer without excessive heat, allowed the vine to develop efficiently and to finish maturing with a beautiful Indian summer in September.
Thorough and precise work in the vineyard and in the cellar was more important than ever this year and was rewarded with wines that look very auspicious.
Location
Issued from the Château’s best parcels (Muriers, Longue,Romarin), and from selected parcels in the best terroirs of Provence.
Terroir
Clay & Limestone vineyard, partially in terraces located at an average of 350 meters. Cool climate for the area with big temperature swings between night and day.
Ageing
The grapes are harvested exclusively in the morning and sorted twice. Destemming. ‘Pressurage direct’ for Cinsault, Grenache and Rolle. The Syrah is vinified partially using the «saignee» method. Vinified in temperature - controlled stainless steel vats (95%) and in barrels (5%) with batonnage.
Varietals

Advice

Tasting
Beautiful pale pink colour.

An intense nose lead by white flowers, little red berries, freshly crushed strawberries and notes of ripe Morello cherries.

The mouth has a beautiful bouquet; round and soft with aromas of cherries, wild strawberries and a mineralilty representative of the Terroir giving the wine great freshness and a slight saltiness.

The wine has length and great balance between the fruit and the minerality with complex aromas of wild herbs, limestone and rich citrus fruit.

Reviews

"Brangelina's wine is beautifully elegant yet it's vibrant and dry with a luscious raspberry flavour and a teasing white pepper spice. Unsurprisingly, the bottle looks the business too."

"As usual the blend is shared between Cinsault, Grenache, Rolle and Syrah and the colour a veil of pale pink modesty. The palate impresses with its focus and concentration, the aromas of Morello cherry, damask rose and Provence scrub translating to an elegant mouth feel, textured and harmonious, with a gentle bittersweet personality and a finely chiselled finish. Drink 2015-2016."

"Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt's 2013 Miraval Rosé was a real success and
their 2014 vintage is equally promising with its marvellous aromas of soft
fruits and white flowers plus a lovely minerality.

"On the nose aromas reminding me of wild strawberry with stone fruits and delicate floral touches. On the palate, the wine display a great texture, with delicate tangerine and peach notes along layers of berry fruit. Great with steamed mussels in a white wine sauce." [+]

"Wine & Spirits Year's Best Rosé

Our panel recommended it because it's graceful an firm, a rosé with conviction. The fruit feel diaphanous, allowing a clear view to the chalky minerality that runs through the wine; the acidity feels vibrant, extending the flavors and whetting the palate another sip. It's made in conjunction with the Famille Perrin in their facilities.

"The finest rosé yet from this estate (the wine is made by the top notch team at Château Beaucastel), the light pink colored 2014 Côtes de Provence Rosé sports a fresh and lively bouquet of wild strawberries, raspberries and white flowers to go with a supple, lightly textured, silky and seamless feel on the palate. About as gulp-able and hard to resist as they come, it's a killer rosé to drink over the coming 6-8 months."

"Rosé of the week.

Rose petals and strawberry floating in well water. Textured, silky but with acidity on the finish to keep the ensemble nimble and fresh. Juicy, yet restrained with a decent amount of length. Love this. Residual sugar: 2.1 g/l. Serve at 10C. Drink now. Food-pairing idea: apéritif, fish soup, mussels with tomato- and herbs-based sauce.

"An aroma of dried raspberries, grapefruit, hints of tea subtle spices leads to a bone dry mid-palate that has a load of character.
It comes in a lovely proprietary bottle.
Exceptional.

"I suspect the enthusiasm for this wine is that Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie own the property. Indeed, the Provence estate near Brignoles is where they were married. Not being a partisan of rosés, I was prepared to dismiss it as just marketing hype with its Champagne-like bottle and perfect pink color that could have been chosen by an interior designer.
But, as the saying goes, you can’t judge a book by its cover. The wine is a collaboration between the movie stars and the Perrin family, who own Château Beaucastel in Châteauneuf-du-Pape and who are one of the Rhône’s leading producers.
In a word, the Miraval rosé is filled with character. Great aromatics predict pleasure, which follows with the first sip. Refreshing, as rosés should be, the 2014 Miraval is firm and persistent. It has elegance and complexity, two words rarely used when describing rosé, and enough oomph to stand up to a hearty salad Niçoise.

"Vivid salmon-skin color. Fresh, incisive aromas of orange zest, redcurrant and white flowers, with hints of honey and lavender in the background. Silky and light on its feet, offering intense red berry and citrus fruit flavors that
deepen and spread out with air. Packs a solid punch but comes off as lithe and precise, with excellent finishing cut and floral persistence. Put aside the celebrity cachet of this wine and judge it for what it is: an outstanding,
classically built Provençal rosé that happens to be made by the highly esteemed Perrin family of Châteauneufdu-Pape’s Château de Beaucastel, who are joint partners with estate owners Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt in this
ambitious and deadly serious venture.

"The Miraval is a pale salmon color, with a softly aromatic nose of dried raspberries and orange blossom. On the palate, it is dry with a round body, and bright acid. Flavors of mandarin, ripe juicy raspberries, violets, and wild herb are complemented by a mineral undertone. The finish is medium in length.

Food Pairing: Great with sweet seared scallops and fresh greens.

Bottom Line: Absolutely lovely. This wine is well balanced, showing bright acidity, a round mouthfeel, and complexity of fruit, mineral, herbal, and floral notes. A winner in my book.

"A light rosemary thread weaves around a core of white cherry and dried tea leaf notes, lingering on the refreshing finish, where stylish rose water and white peach accents chime in. A pure style. Drink now."

"Though the vineyards had a less than predictable growing year, the grapes triumphed in the end and the results speak for themselves. A light and uplifting wine, the final result is a blend of Cinsault, Grenache, Rolle and Syrah and has a pale pink colour that hides a surprisingly powerful flavour. Charming on the nose, the aroma is a mixture of damask rose and Morello cherry, whilst the taste on the palette is somewhat more punchy, intensifying the floral and fruity tones for a wine that has bittersweet qualities, a pleasant punchiness and a smooth and silky texture on the tongue. Perfect for pairing with an al fresco light lunch in the spring sunshine, the wine works well with traditional Spanish tapas or fresh seafood."

"Château Miraval Côtes de Provence Rosé shot to the top of A-listers’ wine lists in 2013 when Pitt and Angelina Jolie released the first vintage — a 2012 rosé — produced from their Provençal estate. A partnership with winemaker Marc Perrin yielded a pink wine that scored 90 points on Wine Spectator’s 100-point scale. The first 6,000 bottles sold out in five hours. That fall, Miraval landed on Wine Spectator’s list of the 100 best wines of the year; at No. 84, it was the only rosé to make the list.

The Jolie-Pitt wine venture continues. Now in its third year of production, Miraval is widely available in the United States, including here in Pitt’s old stomping grounds. The 2014 Miraval is a blend of four grapes: Cinsault, Grenache, Syrah and Rolle. This is a very nice rosé, light and delicate. It carries an aroma of sweet strawberries and hint of summer peaches, leading to a strawberry/raspberry flavor with just a trace of oak spice. Bright acidity keeps it fresh tasting with a clean finish. At 13 percent alcohol, this wine is food-friendly and a versatile pairing partner. Serve it well chilled with brats, wings, burgers, pizza or anything grilled; try it with fried chicken, salads, sushi, pasta, cheese plates and fruit. Or, enjoy it as a solo sip. It’s all good.

The rosé reflects the unique terroir of Château Miraval. The estate is its own valley, with terraced vineyards in clay, slate and limestone soil. Big temperature swings between sunny days and cool nights bring optimum ripening.

Renowned winemaker Perrin works his magic in the winery, direct pressing the Cinsault, Grenache and Rolle but bleeding off juice (saignée) from the Syrah. Stainless steel tanks vinify all but 5 percent of the wine, which goes to oak barrels.

Both Pitt and Perrin say they’re exploring ways to shake up the Provence appellation — as if they haven’t already. The two talk of “super Provence” red wines, similar to the super Tuscans of Italy. But for now, the pretty pink rosé is the star of this venture.

Imported by Vineyard Brands and distributed by Glazer’s, Miraval Rose is available in various locations in Columbia. Check with your favorite local wine merchant.

"The fruit is primarily sourced from 150 acres, and the quality is exceptional. The color of the wine is a pale "it's a girl" pink, but do not let that fool you, this is serious juice. It's dry, but rich nonetheless, and will certainly stand up to heavier fare. Salmon and ahi tuna immediately come to mind as partners here, and the freshness of the acidity will do well to cut the fat in charcuterie plates and cheese boards.

The flavor profile ranges from slightly under-ripe strawberry to lavender, rose petal, verbena and honeysuckle, with citrus top notes and a nice spritz of mineral spiked salinity.

Big flavors offered up in a graceful balanced quaff that is perfect for entertaining, and summer time fun.

"Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s Miraval, made with help from Rhône maestro Marc Perrin, continues to enthral with its dreamy, dry, fresh pear, garrigue herb and strawberry-stashed palate. Peppery Syrah and zingy rolle add complexity here. Worth every penny."
