The vintage
2012 is a vintage of contrasts with a very mild start of the year and a freezing month of February.
A fresh and humid spring, followed by a windy and dry month of July and a very hot month of August.
The harvesting conditions were ideal. All these conditions make a great vintage.

Wine made from the young vines at Beaucastel, a vineyard that we farm just to the west of Beaucastel in the Commune of Orange

Molasse seabed of the Miocene period covered by diluvial alpine deposits (pebbles)

Partly vinified like in Beaucastel and partly vinified in the traditional way after destemming. 100% Foudres for a year. Bottled after fining and light filtration

"Barrel sample. Mid crimson. Herbal scent and very linear compared with the Vaqueyras. Lush and polished. An early maturing Châteauneuf? Not sweet at all though. Finishes dry and just very slightly hot. Acidity is quite marked at the moment though this is far from tart. Lots of sufficiently mature fruit and refreshment."

Possessing beautiful purity in its black raspberry, crushed flowers, pepper and hints of olive, it flows onto the palate with medium to full-bodied richness and depth, a layered, seamless texture and good underlying structure. It shows additional tannin on the finish, but the overall feel here is one of upfront fruit, so drink it over the coming 5-6 years."
