Originating from different terroirs in Côtes du Rhône Villages, this wine is one of the most faithful illustrations of the Southern Rhône Valley.
Presentation
Presentation
The best terroirs of the Côtes du Rhône were identified historically and only 20% can be labelled "Villages". Normally found on geological faults, they also benefit from a geological complexity that produces grapes of superior quality.
The vintage
The vintage started with a long winter and one of the driest ones in the past years followed by an inexistent Spring. The crop development was very slow due to important climatic variations. The winemakers’ work was therefore crucial to get good quality grapes in small quantities. 2013 was a complicated vintage and late but is wonderfully balanced and is very promising.
Location
Just 20% of the Côtes-du-Rhône vineyard is entitled to add the word ‘Villages’ after the words ‘Côtes-du-Rhône’. These are the best vineyard sites.
Terroir
Stony terraces over clay and limestone and gravel.
Ageing
The harvest is sorted and destemmed. Vinification then takes place in stainless steel and oak. Ageing in tanks and Foudre (25%) for a year.

Reviews
A small step up over the Côtes du Rhône Reserve, the 2013 Côtes du Rhône Villages has more fruit and texture with solid black cherry, black raspberry, pepper and Provençal herbs. Drink this medium-bodied, supple and nicely textured 2013 over the coming 3-4 years. "
"
This is firm and tannic, reflecting the challenges of the vintage, yet it does show classic garrigue aromas and flavors of black olives and dark cherries.
Drink it now with grilled meats, or hold it a year or two in the hopes of it softening a little."

Dark ruby. Blackberry, cherry pit and licorice on the nose, developing a hint of smokiness. Chewy and focused on entry, offering bitter cherry and cassis flavors that open up slowly with air. Picks up a dark chocolate nuance on the finish, which shows spicy peppery bite and dusty tannins that add gentle grip."
