Famille Perrin Sélections Parcellaires Gigondas - L'Argnée Vieilles Vignes - 2018

This wine gets its exceptional aromas from vines spanning less than 1 hectare, with nearly 100 years in age.

Story

The vintage
The 2018 vintage is characterised by exceptional weather conditions. Flowering took place in the best possible conditions, with a historically abundant grape output. A few rainy episodes at the end of the spring complicated things a little with an attack of mildew, but the good weather then settled down until harvest, which took place under idyllic conditions. The wines are beautiful.
Situation
Located at the South-Western end of the Appellation, at the heart of the historical village of Gigondas.
Terroir
Sandy soils.
Process
The crop is manually harvested. Upon arrival in the cellars, the grapes are sorted and vatted in 50hl oak barrels. Unlike Syrah, Grenache is destemmed. After maceration, fermentation begins. The extraction and the temperatures are controlled according to daily tastings. We work the wines by punching down or pumping over. After racking, the wines are aged for a year and a half in oak Foudres.
Varietals
Grenache
Syrah

Reviews

95-97/100
"The 2018 Gigondas L’Argnée Vieilles Vignes, which is almost 100% Grenache from pre-phylloxera vines, is a blockbuster in the making. Thrilling notes of blueberries, violets, spice box, and crushed flowers all give way to a full-bodied effort that has ultra-fine tannins, incredible elegance, and a great finish. It’s a remarkable Gigondas that’s up with the finest wines in the vintage."

""Youthful purple. Energetic, mineral-accented aromas of ripe red/dark berries, complicated by suggestions of incense and pungent flowers. Broad and fleshy on entry, then more taut on the midpalate, offering pliant black raspberry and bitter cherry flavors and a suggestion of five-spice powder. Finishes very long and sweet, featuring slow-building tannins, a touch of smokiness and repeating red fruit character.""
