Studio Rosé by Miraval 2018

Presentation

The vintage
The 2018 vintage is a ray of Provencal sunshine, thanks to the region’s particularly generous climate and nature. The rains at the beginning of the season meant the vines were well-prepared and grew healthily in the spring. This is an exacting time during which we need to be constantly in the vineyard, keeping an eye on things, and the work is painstaking and meticulous. The warm and sunny summer we then enjoyed in Provence enabled the grapes to mature perfectly and harvesting conditions were ideal. This 2018 vintage is a rich one indeed, full of fruit and a fine freshness.
Terroir
Coming from plots on the French Riviera, surrounded by olive trees and pine trees, Studio by Miraval is strongly influenced by the sea sprays and the proximity of the Mediterranean Sea. These salty soils give the wine a unique character and an almost iodized finish.
Ageing
All the varieties are vinified by direct pressing. The Cinsault and Tibouren in Stainless steel vats. The Grenache & Rolle are partially vinified in tulip-shaped concrete vats with a rounded bottom. This ovoid shape gives rise to a natural convection movement that suspends the lees creating the same effect as a batonnage and gives the wine a lot of structure.

"A blend of 40% each Cinsault and Grenache, plus 20% Tibouren, the 2018 IGP Mediterranee Rose Studio is a medium-bodied, silky-textured addition to the Miraval lineup. Lime, tangerine, peach and pineapple all come together in this fruit-forward offering that's produced from purchased fruit."

"The wine produced on the Brangelina-owned Miraval estate has always been better than it needed to be, and the same is true of this more affordable spin-off: it’s graceful, refreshing, subtly tangy, and, naturally, comes in a very smart bottle." [+]

"The most famous wine estate in Provence is Château Miravel. Although Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie are separated they still jointly own the property, and the wines are made in partnership with the Perrin family of Château de Beaucastel.
Last week they launched a new wine, Studio by Miravel 2018, IGP Méditerranée (Co-op £12) which takes its names from the recording studio at Château Miravel and has been used over the years by artists such Pink Floyd, Sade and AC/DC.
It’s a blend of cinsault, grenache, rolle and the lesser-known grape tibouren. It’s very pale pink and shows notes of summer red fruits, some ripe peach and a little spice, before a really well balanced palate with more red fruits and a mouth-watering finish which really does make you want to keep coming back for another sip.

"Extremely pale salmon skin. Fresh red berries, honeysuckle and a hint of toasty lees on the deeply perfumed nose. Sappy and expansive on the palate, offering intense strawberry, blood orange and gingery spice flavors and a deeper suggestion of white peach that builds with air. Smoothly blends richness and delicacy and finishes very long and precise, with resonating spiciness and florality. This is an extremely interesting and in no way easy-going pink wine for the money. Fermented and raised in a combination of stainless steel tanks and concrete eggs."

"Salty, sea breeze notes flank the delicate white raspberry, melon and tangerine peel flavors in this delicate rosé. Offers a spicy, crisp finish. Cinsault, Grenache, Rolle and Tibouren. Drink now."

"Studio by Miraval 2018, IGP de Méditerranée, okay so strictly this is not a Provence rosé but it is made by the same team as Chateau Miraval, that now famous Provence producer jointly owned by Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt with input from the Perrin family. This is in essence a second wine of the estate and its bottle is reminiscent of something out of the perfume industry."
