Domaine du Clos des Tourelles - 2019

Domaine du Clos des Tourelles, a place out of time, surrounded by his "clos" of old Grenache.

Presentation

Presentation
Vines and old vines from this vineyard, whether from the mid-slopes or from the heart of the “Clos”, provide the wine with elegance and a unique aromatic finesse.
The vintage
The years in 9 regularly mark the memory of winegrowers and this vintage was no exception. After an early bud burst in early April, flowering was gradual and took place in good conditions in all the vineyards. Then a hot summer began in late June, which the vines bravely resisted: they suffered little from water stress, thanks to the chamomile herbal infusions we sprayed on the vegetation to cope with the heat. Finally, the harvest went as usual, without any particular precocity. The wines are promising; a vintage in 9 is born, once again, under a lucky star.
Location
The “Domaine des Tourelles” is located at the foot of the village of Gigondas. The vineyard, which includes a “Clos” directly next to the Property and the village, is orientated north west and enjoys a cool microclimate which allows late harvests.
Terroir
The vineyard’s soils are calcareous, with a very specific sandy matrix, which can be felt more specifically within the “clos”.
Ageing
The harvest date is defined by regular checks on the ripeness and berry tastings. The harvest is manually picked and the greatest care is taken with the bunches that are used whole in vats. After a few days of maceration, the fermentation starts spontaneously with the indigenous yeasts. The extraction is mainly done by light punch downs. After pressing in a vertical press, the wines are aged in oak Foudres for a year and a half.
Varietals
Grenache noir
Syrah

Tasting
Le Clos des Tourelles 2019 is a model of elegance. It shows a beautiful dense red colour with plum undertones and reveals a very refined nose with subtle notes of violets and pepper. On the palate, it also shows great finesse with superb aromas of blackcurrants and liquorice, and a very elegant and long finish.

Reviews

97/100
"All Grenache that was vinified in tank and brought up in tronconique wooded tank, the 2019 Gigondas Clos Des Tourelles is up there with the top vintages of this cuvée and is well worth seeking out. Roughly 60% destemmed, it has a core of black raspberry fruit as well as lots of ground pepper, spice, violets, and floral notes in its full-bodied, ultra-fine, pure, seamless style. It’s a heavenly Gigondas that will evolve for 15-20 years if stored correctly."
