Another of the vast Vinsobres repertoire, this wine comes from a plot with 90 year old vines co-planted with Grenache and Syrah.
Presentation
Presentation
Vinsobres is one of the most beautiful Crus in the Southern Rhône.
The vintage
The vintage started with a long winter and one of the driest ones in the past years followed by an inexistent Spring. The crop development was very slow due to important climatic variations. The winemakers’ work was therefore crucial to get good quality grapes in small quantities. 2013 was a complicated vintage and late but is wonderfully balanced and is very promising.
Location
The vineyard is located 40 km north of Châteauneuf-du-Pape at an altitude of 300m benefiting from a cool climate, perfect for Syrah. Les Hauts de Julien is made with grapes from an old plot of vines (around 90 years old) co-planted in Syrah and Grenache.

Tasting
Our Selection parcellaire, ‘Les Hauts de Julien’ 2013 was harvested on 18 and 19 October with beautiful mature Grenache and Syrah. The end of the alcoholic fermentations is carried out in new oak casks. The nose is very complex on notes of black fruit, cocoa, toast and spices. This wine is concentrated, dark, and has rich tannins with great length and a persistent finish.
Reviews
A big step up over the Les Cornuds, the 2013 Côtes du Rhône Villages Vinsobres les Hauts de Julien is parcel selection of Syrah and Grenache from the cooler, windy Vinsobres region located in the northern part of the southern Rhône. Inky colored and mostly opaque, it reveals gorgeous, northern Rhône-like characteristics of black and blue fruits, pepper, violets and underbrush. Medium to full-bodied, elegant and seamless, with building tannin and a great finish, it can be enjoyed today, but will benefit from short term cellaring and have a decade or more of longevity."
"
Dark ruby. A complex, highly perfumed bouquet evokes black and blue fruits, licorice and candied flowers, joined by an emerging suggestion of olive. Smooth, sappy and expansive in the mouth, offering intense blueberry and floral pastille flavors sharpened by a suggestion of cracked pepper. This reminds me quite a bit of a wine from the north. Closes smoky, sweet and quite long; sneaky tannins lend shape and grip."
"
Vivid, pure flavors of boysenberry and plum coulis are the main focus, with light anise and violet hints skittering around. The fresh finish has a minerally echo. Drink now through 2018. 500 cases made."
