Miraval Provence

This wine is fleshy and mineral at the same time with aromas of white-flesh fruit, small peaches and almonds. A balance which gives this wine a unique sensation.

Presentation

The vintage
After a contrasted spring, there was hot and dry summer in 2012 that was favourable to the slow maturation of the grapes. The crop was modest quantity-wise with fairly low alcohol and good acidity levels. The colour is pale yellow with notes of citrus, peaches, strawberries and roses all in great balance.
Location
Chateau Miraval is one of the only estates in Provence to have its own private valley on the Commune of Correns to the north of Brignoles. The vineyard covers two appellations: Coteaux Varois en Provence (at the north-west) and Cotes de Provence (at the East of the estate).
Terroir
The vineyard is planted on a gentle slope (between 5% and 9%) on clay and limestone soils. The sub-soils are
known as Keuper marl. This particular clay is known to have a low internal surface area and is particularly
adapted to great white varietals.
Ageing
The grapes are hand picked in 35Kg crates and then sorted. Sorting. Gentle pressing. Low temperature fermentation. Ageing in demi-muids (600 litres) and barrique (225 litres) with bâtonnage (stirring of the lees) for 50% of the cuvee.
Varietal
Rolle : 100%

Advice

Tasting
Beautiful pale yellow colour, bright with golden undertones.
The nose is very open with rich aromas of yellow flesh fruit and tropical fruit such as fresh pineapple and mango.
The minerality of the Keuper marls on the Chateau’s terroir is apparent here. A few smoked notes.
The palate is fleshy and mineral at the same time with aromas of white-flesh fruit, small peaches and almonds. The balance between the minerality and the flesh gives this wine a unique sensation. The final is rich on apricots and is uplifted by toasted aromas.

Reviews

16/20
"Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie's debut vintage in conjunction with the Perrin family of Beaucastel. Mainly Rolle with 5% Grenache Blanc.
Very bulbous bottle. Very perfumed and fresh. Feminine and quite rich. Lightly honeyed. Bite on the end, and a bit of astringency.
