Miraval Côtes de Provence Blanc - 2023

This wine is fleshy and mineral at the same time with aromas of white-flesh fruit, small peaches and almonds. A balance which gives this wine a unique sensation.

Presentation

The vintage
Like in the Northern Rhône, the 2023 vintage was full of contrasts in Provence, requiring composure and meticulous and permanent attention of our vines. After a dry winter, the spring was particularly wet with episodes of hail which caused damage. Following these heavy rains, we had to face significant spells of mildew before a particularly hot and dry summer. The harvest thus began early on September 6th. Due to these climatic hazards, the harvest offers a limited quantity but with magnificent quality. The wines are now resting peacefully in the cellar. In the fall, we were also able to harvest a good crop of olives, around 15 tonnes.
Location
Chateau Miraval is one of the only estates in Provence to have its own private valley on the Commune of Correns to the north of Brignoles. The vineyard covers two appellations: Coteaux Varois en Provence (at the north-west) and Cotes de Provence (at the East of the estate).
Terroir
The vineyard is planted on a gentle slope (between 5% and 9%) on clay and limestone soils. The sub-soils are known as Keuper marl. This particular clay is known to have a low internal surface area and is particularly
adapted to great white varietals.
Ageing
The grapes are hand picked in 35Kg crates and then sorted. Sorting. Gentle pressing. Low temperature fermentation. Ageing in demi-muids (600 litres) and barrique (225 litres) with bâtonnage (stirring of the lees) for 50% of the cuvee.

Advice

Tasting
Seductive, clear pale-gold colour, with golden reflections. Very delicate, the nose is particularly expressive and floral, dominated by notes of white flowers and acacia, before evolving towards aromas of citrus fruit such as lemons and fresh almonds on the finish. Ample, round and soft, the palate reveals tasty aromas of citrus fruit - grapefruit and yuzu -, highlighted by notes of white flowers. The long saline finish brings great freshness to this very elegant wine.
Food pairings
Lobster Thermidor, Belle de Fontenay apple confit with Saffron. Fresh cheese, olive oil and pistachios. Veal Blanquette, salsify. Bouillabaisse, mussels. Mango and orange blossom Pannacotta.

Reviews

89/100
"This unadorned and energetic white is defined by flavors of white meadow flowers, white peach and green plum, with a savory beam of acidity. Shows fleshiness on the palate, with a round profile and flintiness. Drink now."
